The March

In June 2007, Team Gobi Canada (Donald Peterson, Donna Carrigan and Rob Mackay) will be embarking on an epic race across the Gobi desert known as the 'Gobi March' to attempt a first place team finish - the first ever by an all-Canadian team. We are taking on this challenge in an effort to raise awareness for breast cancer prevention and research.

The Race of No Return
The Gobi March is a self-supported footrace across 150 miles (250 kilometers) of the Gobi Desert in China. The race consists of six stages, lasting 7 days, withdistances ranging from 10 to 50 miles (20 - 80 kilometers) per stage. Competitors are required to be fully self-supported throughout the event and must carry all their own food, gear and clothing which they will need to complete the 150 mile (250 kilometer) course. The Gobi March is held annually in honor of three great women -- Mildred Cable and Eva and Francesca French - who crossed the Gobi Desert fi ve times approximately one-hundred years ago.
The March for the Cure
At a point in our lives, and like many Canadians, our team members have felt a drive to raise awareness for breast cancer prevention and research. Donna Carrigan was faced with the news of a breast tumor at the age of 18. Although her tumor was found to be benign, she feels her diagnosis and treatment were expedited as a direct result of the research and current awareness of breast cancer in Canada. If she had been born a generation or two earlier - her story could have been much different.
Donald Peterson, is a single father of a young daughter, and wants to see her grow up in a future free of breast cancer. Rob Mackay has watched both his mother and grandmother face breast cancer and is very grateful that they are breast cancer survivors. Our passion for this cause is so great that we feel equipped to take on this epic challenge.
